How to Pick a Domain Name for your blog

In real world we`re identified by our names, like-wise in virtual world sites or blogs are identified by their domain names.

I know you know this.

But sometimes we forget to remember importance a domain name has, and we end up taking irrelevant domain name. Including me, am not satisfied with this domain name but I can`t change it now. I hope at-least from now we don`t make such mistakes.

So here are those 10 tips which made you click the link and read this post.

10 tips for Choosing a Domain Name for Your Blog or Business

#1 Known your business

I don`t mean that you don`t know your business, but before taking domain name just see what actually your business is about and what are you going to provide, is it a service, resources, or news?

And which word can tell about your business to your readers.

For instance, if your blog is about online SEO tutorials and you want to your readers to know about it when they look at your domain name, then don`t go for Onlineseocoaching.com, though it`s very brief. Instead take shorter one (which am going to discuss later).

Just see that your domain tells about your business.

#2 Dig from existing domains

It`s always good to start with existing ones, because with this you can get an idea about how your domain name should be. No am not saying to copy or alter existing popular domains.

When you dig your competitor sites which are accepted by users whom you`re going to target it can really help you to know and get back with a domain which your users will love.

#3 Keyword in domain or branding your business?

Well most of new bloggers are still in dilemma about keyword in domain. Well let me bust this out, you can rank higher in SERPs with keyword less domain. (In case if you want long tail keywords then find long tail keyword with these tools)

Though it depends on your business, if you`ve big plans then I suggest to go with brandable names, in-case you`re starting a niche sites to make money then go with keyword rich domain.

Keyword in domain is added benefit to your blog, but not having it is not a limit to rank.

Few example domain names. iAcquire.com, Hubspot.com, Labnol.org, Hubpages.com, Shoutmeloud.com etc….

Don`t you think above domains have keyword in them? Aren`t they popular?

This may seem useless now but in long run it will be added advantage for your business.

Take Google the search giant, it secured almost all forms .in, org, .ca etc…

#6 Where are you targeting?

right place to target audience

It`s always important to consider people you`re going to target.

Say you`re targeting people in Canada then it`s recommended to go with .Ca domain extension. (If you don`t have any plan to extend your business all over world)

Make your domain legally valid.

It`s really good to go with old domains if they`re available for sale.

Old domain definitely has weight-age in SERPs.

Also it can bring some few traffic to your blog.
